ROBINS v BELLE VUE, CUP FINAL PREVIEW

Wednesday September 18, 2019
SWINDON must pull back eight points against Belle Vue at the Abbey on Thursday to secure their first silverware of the season.

The sides meet in the second leg of the Premiership Supporters’ Cup Final with the Aces holding a 49-41 lead from last week’s clash in Manchester.

That sets the tie up well for the decider, but although the CFS Filtration Robins will be confident based on their recent home form, boss Alun Rossiter insists previous scores count for nothing in a Final.

Robins have defeated Belle Vue 55-35 and 58-32 in their Blunsdon meetings earlier in the season, and racked up massive totals of 66 and 65 in their last two Premiership home matches.

Rossiter said: “With the way we’ve been riding at home, I’m confident we can pull back eight points, but it’s not going to be straightforward.

“Everything changes in a Final, Belle Vue have nothing to lose, and the big wins we’ve had previously count for nothing.

“Mark Lemon will have his side fired up, they’ve just missed out on the play-offs and I know exactly how they’ll be feeling about that.

“It’s their only chance to win silverware and they bring a lead with them, so we have to realise that it’s not going to be easy and the last thing we need is any complacency.

“I’m sure that won’t be the case and I’m really pleased with recent performances, so it’s a case of one meeting at a time and hopefully we’ll have the Cup by the end of the night.”

With the Cup format in place, supporters get the chance to vote for the Heat 14 line-up via Twitter polls which will be available after Heat 10 from @SwindonSpeedway and @TheAces, with Rossiter and Lemon putting four of their riders up for selection.

Both sides are at full strength with a bumper crowd expected at the start of a busy weekend for the sport including the Championship Pairs at Somerset on Friday and the British Grand Prix at Cardiff on Saturday.

Robins stars Rasmus Jensen and Adam Ellis race for their Championship clubs Glasgow and Birmingham at the Oaktree Arena, whilst skipper Jason Doyle lines up in the Grand Prix.

Robins will also see the Premiership play-off position clarified on Thursday, with the key fixture between King’s Lynn and Poole taking place at the Adrian Flux Arena.

Should Poole fail to win that meeting, Swindon will be confirmed as league leaders going into the play-offs and will get to choose their semi-final opponents – whilst a Pirates victory in Norfolk will give them the choice.

Robins will also be staging their annual collection for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund on Thursday. Riders from both clubs will be on the terraces during the interval with the Robins looking to keep up their recent record as the most generous contributors to the Fund.
