BARRY Briggs, one of Swindon’s all-time greatest riders, will be a special guest at tonight’s Cup Final decider with Belle Vue at the Abbey (7.30).

And the club are also staging their Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund collection – raising vital funds for injured and disabled riders.

Briggs, who won four world titles in a glorious career, rode for Swindon between 1964 and 1972.

CFS Filtration Robins co-promoter Lee Kilby said: “It’s a big night for everyone at the club as we look to win the cup.

“But to have Briggo in attendance is marvellous. He is one of the greatest riders of all time, anywhere in the world.

“You only have to look at his career record to see how special he was and it’s great for us to have him with us at the Abbey tonight.”

Swindon have finished top of the collection standings for the Benevolent Fund in the last four years – and they’re gunning for a fifth tonight.

Boss Alun Rossiter said: “I’ve told Paul Ackroyd at the Ben Fund that we are going for top of the standings in the collection table again.

“I’d ask all the fans to contribute as generously as they can for what is a wonderful cause.”
