Swindon Speedway fans' group Swindon Needs Speedway continue their campaign to maintain public focus for a return of the sport to the Wiltshire town.
In recent weeks, they have met with both local Members of Parliament, Heidi Alexander MP and Will Stone MP, to appraise them of the current situation and convey what the sport means to the people of Swindon. A similar session is also scheduled with Swindon Borough Council Leader Jim Robbins in the forthcoming weeks.
The group's e-petition closed on Tuesday with over 2,000 signatories. This petition asks the local authority to explore and support options for speedway's return, after a 5-year absence.
Due to the level of support it received, the petition is now scheduled to be debated in a forthcoming Full Council Meeting.
A Swindon Needs Speedway spokesman said "We continue to work hard to keep as many doors open as possible to get our beloved Robins back on track. It's fantastic to know our desire is shared by our MP's and swathes of the local and speedway communities alike.
"We are also looking forward to promised engagement with Swindon Motorsports' representatives, once their Studley Grange proposals develop further."
